Microbotanical residues from wooden material culture

Understanding how microbotanical residues are deposited in wooden objects

This project assesses the efficacy of non-destructive microbotanical analysis on wooden material culture. Using the Three-Layer Wash Method, I sampled modern wooden materials such as bowls, buckets, ladles, stir sticks, and cutting boards to investigate what kinds of microbotanical residues can be retrieved. One objective of this project is to demonstrate the merit of such approaches to museums and collections experts so this approach may be allowed on archaeological artifacts.
